Why is There a Tree in the Living Room?

Every family has its own traditions. But why is the universal Christmas habit to put a tree, live or fake, into a main room of your house? As in the words of Jim Gaffigan: it sounds like the behavior of a drunk man.
Why we bring this large plant into our house and decorate it with glass objects and other shiny things, is beyond me.
Why we then tell our children that a jolly fat man in a red velvet suit that is going to commit the most counts ever recorded of breaking and entering in one night is a good thing... and that this man is going to be transported through the air with magical flying reindeer... and that he is going to leave small gifts under each decorated tree... and fill up socks that are hung by the fire, is also beyond me.
Then the cherry on top of this ridiculous tale: these actions are all to celebrate the birth of... Jesus?
Whatever!

The tree stand for everlasting life, which Christ brings. We give each other gifts to symbolize the gift of Christ. Just so ya know.

It may be strange, but it sure is fun. I can't imagine living without our traditions.

Christmas trees make me sigh with contentment. They evoke all the wonderful memories of Christmas for me.
